Our History

New Trinity Baroque was founded in London in March 1998 by conductor and harpsichordist Predrag Gosta. Its inaugural concert took place at St Martin-in-the-Fields, establishing from the outset the ensemble’s commitment to historically informed performance on period instruments.

Following an important period of international development, including residencies and touring activity in the United States and continental Europe, the orchestra expanded its artistic scope to include fully staged baroque opera alongside orchestral and sacred repertoire.

Significant milestones include:

  • Semi-finalist appearance at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition (New York)

  • Participation in the Boston Early Music Festival

  • Ensemble residencies at Georgia State University, Oxford College of Emory University, and St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church (Atlanta)

  • Touring appearances in England, Sweden, Finland, Croatia, and Serbia

  • Collaboration with internationally recognised artists including John Holloway, Evelyn Tubb, Ingrid Matthews, Marion Verbruggen, Steven Devine, Florian Deuter, Iliya Korol, and Bojan Čičić

From 2018, the Artistic Director’s return to England marked a strategic consolidation of the ensemble’s UK base. Subsequent institutional development includes appointment as Ensemble-in-Residence at Exeter College, Oxford, and the continuation of large-scale period-instrument opera productions.

Today, New Trinity Baroque operates as a UK charitable organisation, presenting opera, concerts, educational initiatives, and research-informed projects within the UK and abroad.

ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP

Predrag Gosta is the founder and Artistic Director of New Trinity Baroque. A conductor and harpsichordist specialising in baroque opera and historically informed performance, he established the ensemble in London in 1998 while completing postgraduate studies at Trinity College of Music.

Under his direction, New Trinity Baroque has developed a distinctive profile combining operatic ambition with chamber refinement. His work encompasses staged baroque opera, sacred repertoire, and research-based reconstructions, reflecting a sustained engagement with historical sources and performance practice.

As Artistic Director, he oversees programming, casting, scholarly direction, and institutional strategy, guiding the ensemble’s artistic and organisational development. Alongside his performing career, Gosta is currently a doctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, where his research examines the development of English opera at the end of the eighteenth century. His academic work informs his artistic practice, reinforcing the ensemble’s commitment to historically grounded interpretation and source-based performance. To learn more, click here.
