About the Opera:

Rinaldo is not just a masterpiece that propelled Handel’s career into the stratosphere of musical fame, but also an opera that caused a sensation on the London stages of its time. Now, you have the opportunity to become part of that magic – for the first time in Belgrade!

How to apply:

We are seeking singers for all roles: Almirena, Argante, Armida, Goffredo, Eustazio, and Rinaldo.

Preparations will take place over 10 days during the last week of January, offering participants a unique opportunity to work with top baroque artists and educators. We will also be joined by the members of the award-winning period instrument ensemble New Trinity Baroque, who will share their expertise and play with other Baroque Academy iinstrumentalists in the Baroque Orchestra of the Academy.

This intensive masterclass is intended for advanced singers and baroque instrumentalists (pitch will be, as expected, at A=415 Hz). For those instrumentalists who don't have their own baroque instruments, one can be provided through the generous support of the Makris Music Society.

Participation Details:

  • Fee: 800 EURO for singers, and 500 EURO for instrumentalists

  • Deadline: Until full, but priority will be given to those that apply by the 30th November 2023
  • Scholarships: Available for applicants for whom the fee is a challenge
  • Accommodation is not included, but we can offer assistance (e.g. AirBnB, hotel recommendation).

Who should apply?

We are seeking young, passionate singers and instrumentalists ready to delve into the richness of baroque musical interpretation. With the support of distinguished experts, including music director, singer, harpsichordist and conductor Predrag Gosta, vocal instructor Nicholas Clapton, baroque violinist and baroque orchestra leader Adrian Butterfield, and stage director Sreten Manojlović, this is your chance to express yourself on stage and enhance your skills. Expert coaching in style and ornamentation, IItalian language, stage movement and vocal/instrumental technique. Singers will be expected to learn their roles in advance, so that we can immediately start with the staging.

Two staged performances (with two casts) on the 30th and 31st will be professionally recorded on video - a record that will be given to you afterwards, so that you can use it for your purposes.
